Philosophy
Why do kids play Football?: This is the question that forms the basis of what we do at AC Finchley. We recognise that kids play football for many different reasons. Some aspire to becoming a professional player, some do it because they enjoy being active, others place more value on just being with friends or simply because the game is fun! |
Player and personal development: AC Finchley is built on the foundations of developing people and players who share a lifelong love of the game. We are also about developing life skills and behaviours beyond football. Respect, teamwork, communication, collaboration, resilience, self-esteem and confidence are all enhanced through a positive club environment. |
Commitment to progression: AC Finchley are passionate about developing players who play attractive, attacking football and possess the technical and tactical skills required for this to happen. We also understand that kids want to win football games! Equally we value players who can demonstrate respect, support one another, keep going through adversity and shake hands at the end of a game. |
Learning and enjoyment: At AC Finchley we expect our coaches to provide a positive and inclusive learning environment for all. Players should be challenged and supported equally. We understand that we all make mistakes and that this is a part of learning. We also recognise that FUN is a key ingredient in making progress as a player and a young person. |
Individual before the team at the youngest age groups: We understand that football is a team game played by individuals. At the youngest age groups, our focus is on helping them to build a strong technical and physical skillset, which will enable them to play their part in effective teams in the future. You will see lots of dribbling, turning, shielding, attacking 1v1 and the use of tag games to develop agility, balance and coordination. Players will play in different positions to help them build an understanding of the game. |
Coaches are valuable: The skill of our coaches will be to develop the players through a programme of coaching that focuses on their individual needs. Our coaches are supported through a programme of formal coach education and individual coaching mentor support. |
