AC Finchley are proud to have their teams run by over 50 Volunteer Coaches, all having completed their DBS Checks, Safeguarding, First Aid and Minimum FA Level 1 Coaching Course. These coaches are backed up by coach mentors with FA Level 2 and UEFA B Qualifications.

Philosophy

Why do kids play Football?:
This is the question that forms the basis of what we do at AC Finchley. We recognise that kids play football for many different reasons. Some aspire to becoming a professional player, some do it because they enjoy being active, others place more value on just being with friends or simply because the game is fun!
Player and personal development:
AC Finchley is built on the foundations of developing people and players who share a lifelong love of the game. We are also about developing life skills and behaviours beyond football. Respect, teamwork, communication, collaboration, resilience, self-esteem and confidence are all enhanced through a positive club environment.
Commitment to progression:
AC Finchley are passionate about developing players who play attractive, attacking football and possess the technical and tactical skills required for this to happen. We also understand that kids want to win football games! Equally we value players who can demonstrate respect, support one another, keep going through adversity and shake hands at the end of a game.
Learning and enjoyment:
At AC Finchley we expect our coaches to provide a positive and inclusive learning environment for all. Players should be challenged and supported equally. We understand that we all make mistakes and that this is a part of learning. We also recognise that FUN is a key ingredient in making progress as a player and a young person.
Individual before the team at the youngest age groups:
We understand that football is a team game played by individuals. At the youngest age groups, our focus is on helping them to build a strong technical and physical skillset, which will enable them to play their part in effective teams in the future. You will see lots of dribbling, turning, shielding, attacking 1v1 and the use of tag games to develop agility, balance and coordination. Players will play in different positions to help them build an understanding of the game.
Coaches are valuable:
The skill of our coaches will be to develop the players through a programme of coaching that focuses on their individual needs. Our coaches are supported through a programme of formal coach education and individual coaching mentor support.

Coaching Philosophy

AC FINCHLEY PLAYING PHILOSOPHY
Play a possession dominant, attacking game style.
Play the ball out from the back when possible.
Build play through the thirds of the pitch.
Encourage players to be exciting on the ball.
Try to regain possession high up the pitch.
Try to win whilst playing attractive, attacking football

AC FINCHLEY TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
Make it SAFE and FUN
Be POSITIVE and ENTHUSIASTIC
A clear Learning Focus.  What are we trying to help them improve?
Give them ownership
Create a LEARNING environment where mistakes are ok
Set them problems to solve and give them decisions to make
80% ACTIVE learning time (Ball Rolling)
Give them a chance to SELF CORRECT, reflect, DISCOVER for themselves
SHORT bursts – 15min per activity
Cater for different learning styles (VARK whiteboard, iPad)
Plenty of GAME TIME
Lots of SOCIAL INTERACTION
Check their UNDERSTANDING

AC FINCHLEY MATCH DAY ETHOS
1. Fair game time. EVERY CHILD plays at least 50% (depending on injury/ discipline/attendance)
2. Try to be more sporting than the other team
3. Try to play to the AC Finchley way
4. Try to WIN, but not at the expense of 1,2 or 3!

HOW DO WE MEASURE SUCCESS?
Did our players meet their challenges?
Were the players, coaches and parents respectful to all?
Did the Players try to play the AC Finchley way?
Did every player try their hardest?
Did we allow them to make decisions and mistakes?
Did the players learn anything from the game?
Will they all want to come back next week/next season?
Are they getting different playing experiences?
Did Players have ownership?
